Why Would I Need an Extraction?

In many cases, an erupting wisdom tooth can force existing teeth out of alignment, making your bite uneven. Furthermore, erupting teeth generally result in chronic pain in the back of the mouth and even a higher risk of oral infections. This is particularly true if the tooth becomes impacted, or trapped underneath other teeth while erupting. Wisdom teeth can also become problematic if they are trapped underneath gum tissue.

If a wisdom teeth poses no immediate issues or does not interfere with your current alignment, they do not necessarily need to be removed. However, their removal is typically a precautionary one and our dentists will make absolute sure if they pose an issue or not before recommending extraction.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process

Initial Consult & Exam

With an oral examination and X-Rays, your oral surgeon can determine the placement of the wisdom teeth and predict if there are any present or future problems. Patients are usually first evaluated in their mid-teenage years by their dentist, orthodontist, or an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

Removal

In most cases, wisdom teeth removal is performed under local anesthesia, laughing gas (nitrous oxide/oxygen analgesia) or IV sedation. Your options and their surgical risks will be discussed with you before the procedure is performed. Your comfort and ease of mind is our priority throughout the procedure.

Recovery

Once the teeth are removed, the gums will be sutured. To control bleeding, gauze will be placed on the treatment area. You will rest under our supervision until you are ready to be taken home by a responsible adult. Once discharged, you will be given a postoperative kit that includes instructions, a prescription for pain medication, antibiotics and a follow-up appointment in one week to have the sutures removed.

Did You Know...

that by delaying treatment for missing teeth, you risk bone resorption, plus more complicated and expensive procedures down the line?

When you lose a tooth, your jawbone begins to deteriorate, which alters the shape of your jawline and entire face. It also impacts the healthy teeth around the space, putting you at risk for serious infections and losing even more teeth from decay.

Don’t delay treatment. Dental Implants preserve your oral health. Take our brief quiz to see if you qualify.

Why Choose Snap-In Implant Dentures?

  • More stable than traditional dentures, which are made to be removed daily.
  • Smile with confidence, as snap-in dentures are more comfortable and nature looking.
  • Enjoy your favorite foods, with no limitations on hard, sticky foods.
  • Speak confidently knowing your dentures are secure.
  • Live comfortably, without irritation from movement

Financing & Insurance

To make treatment as easy as possible, we accept most PPO insurance. We also work with CareCredit and offer an in-house financing option for patients.

HOW IT WORKS: THE DENTAL IMPLANT PLACEMENT AND RESTORATION PROCESS

Initial Consult

At your consultation, your dentist will determine if dental implants are right for you. Your doctor will examine your mouth, take x-rays, and determine if your jaw is strong and healthy enough to support one or more dental implants. You and your dentist can also explore other restorative dentistry options at this time.

Scans and Fit

After you’ve been approved for treatment, your dentist will create a surgical plan for your dental implant, and schedule your oral surgery appointment. At this appointment, your dentist will create a small opening in your gum tissue, place a dental implant secure in the jaw, then clean the area and suture it shut to encourage proper healing.

Your New Smile

Once your implant has been placed, healing will begin. It takes 1-2 weeks to heal completely from surgery, but it will take between 3-6 months for your dental implant to bond permanently with your jaw bone in a process called “osseointegration”.

Have Questions About Wisdom Tooth Extractions?

Find Answers Here:

Why do wisdom teeth have to be removed?

The wisdom teeth are our third set of molars, and are a natural part of the body. However, they grow in much later than the rest of the adult teeth. Most people have their adult teeth by the age of 12 or 13, but wisdom teeth usually grow in between the ages of 17-25.‍Most people don’t have enough space in their mouths to accommodate this third set of molars properly. This is especially true if you’ve had orthodontic treatment. Because of this, the wisdom teeth often grow into the mouth improperly, and do not fully erupt, becoming “impacted.” Or, they may grow crookedly or sideways, and cause damage to the surrounding molars and jaw structure. ‍If your wisdom teeth are not erupting properly, or your child has wisdom teeth that are causing them pain and discomfort, it may be a good idea to have them extracted to prevent these complications.

Are wisdom teeth extractions always necessary?

No. Some patients have plenty of space in their mouths for their wisdom teeth, and can keep them without any issues. The best way to find out if you need to have your wisdom teeth extracted is to schedule an appointment.

What are the signs that I need wisdom teeth extractions?

The most common sign that your wisdom teeth may not be growing into your mouth properly is pain, discomfort, and soreness in the rear of your mouth. You may also notice issues like swollen, tender, and bleeding gums. In some cases, you may even have jaw stiffness that’s so severe that you have trouble opening your mouth all the way. You may also experience pain and difficulty eating.

Have Questions About Invisalign?

Find Answers Here

If you have minor or moderate orthodontic issues, you are likely a good candidate for treatment with Invisalign. So long as your mouth is free of any oral health issues like gum disease or tooth decay, you will probably be eligible to proceed with treatment. However, Invisalign is not for everyone. Severe orthodontic issues may not be able to be addressed with Invisalign. In these cases, we usually recommend treatment with traditional metal or ceramic braces as they can provide more powerful results. To find out about your options for orthodontic treatment, schedule your consultation today!

While Invisalign trays look very similar to night guards and mouthguards, we do not recommend that you use Invisalign as a nightguard. The clear plastic trays are designed to gently shift your teeth, not protect them. If you grind your teeth at night, we may recommend that you get a night guard to protect your teeth and go with traditional braces instead of Invisalign. If you wear your aligners at night and notice that they are becoming cracked or worn down, this may be a sign that you are grinding your teeth at night. This will affect your treatment so be sure to let your doctor know right away if you think you might be grinding your teeth.

The cost of treatment with Invisalign is usually comparable to the cost of traditional braces. Every case is different, though, so it’s important to discuss your budget with your doctor. During your consultation, your doctor will consider multiple factors including your needs, your lifestyle, and your budget before helping you decide which treatment to proceed with.

Invisalign aligners are nearly impossible to see when wearing them. This is because they are made out of clear plastic and are perfectly fit to your smile. Your trays will be custom-made trimmed to fit to your gum line for a more seamless look. Plus there are no metal brackets or wires, so you can feel confident in your smile throughout treatment. However, if you eat or drink with your aligners in, they could become stained, making them more visible.

These clear aligners are designed onto a mold of your teeth. A lab technician will apply layers of a photo-sensitive liquid resin to this custom mold. Next, the technician will expose this resin to a laser, curing it into a hard, yet flexible, thermoplastic. This plastic is called SmartTrack®, and it was created exclusively for Invisalign treatment. It’s FDA-approved and contains no BPA, BPS, latex, or gluten.
